What are blinds for?
A window shade, also known as window blinds, is basically a cover for a
window. They are usually hung on the inside in front of a window to serve
functional purposes such as controlling light in a room or for privacy reasons.
Window shades come in all different fabrics and styles to choose from. Some
shades are made with slat blinds, which consists of flat slats that are
horizontally placed together by a metal or vinyl string. In doing so, the slats
can be rotated and adjusted to let more or less light enter a room. Blind shades
are versatile because they can be let down to cover the window completely and
still have the slats adjusted to completely not let light enter, let minimal
light enter or let a lot of light enter a room. Some examples of blind shades
include Venetian blinds, miniblinds and vertical blinds. Some information about
each kind is below:
Venetian blinds are the basic slatted blinds we see in many office buildings.
The slats for these blinds are usually made of metal or vinyl. Sometimes,
they're also made of wood--however, when made with wood, many refer to them as
wooden blinds instead.
Miniblinds are just like Venetian blinds. However, the slats that come on
mini blinds are, of course, miniature and much narrower than the regular blinds.
Vertical blinds are usually made of a stiff fabric, plastic or metal and hang
from a window or sliding door vertically. They're a vertical kind of blind that
can be rotated from side to side (instead of up and down) to control light in a
room.
